Nando de Freitas - FLAD and the Portuguese Scientists in America

Nando de Feitas Nando de Freitas was born in Zimbabwe on May 19, 1970, as João Ferdinando Gomes de Freitas. He grew up in Mocambique, Portugal, Venezuela and South Africa, and currently lives in Vancouver, Canada. His area of work is machine learning, Bayesian statistics and artificial intelligence “I conduct research on complex, structured stochastic systems. I am particularly interested in learning models and information processes to improve our understanding of these systems and to make appropriate decisions under uncertainty. Though my research is widely applicable, I am drawn to the study of cognitive systems”, he says.
